Coffee, Tea, AI or Me?
Have you ever woken up, wandered into the kitchen and found yourself in that very serious early morning dilemma: big, comforting mug of tea or a lovely cup of fresh coffee? And for a split second before your brain fully boots up, you consider just pouring both into the same cup so you don’t have to decide. Then immediately think, absolutely not, that would be chaos!
Except if you lived in Hong Kong, it wouldn’t be.
The Surprising Lesson of Hong Kong’s Yuenyeung
Because in Hong Kong, there is a super popular drink there called Yuenyeung and, believe it or not, it’s a mix of coffee and milk tea. Yup, you heard me! Millions drink it every year. No drama. No existential beverage crisis. Just a bit of both.
And I’m starting to wonder if that’s what AI is really here to offer us. No, not a cup of coffee/tea but the opportunity to have 2 things at the same time – convenience and connection.
AI Vs Human Creativity: Do We Really Have To Pick One?
How about having the convenience of AI doing the heavy lifting (and sometimes the lighter lifting too) the ideas, the captions, the structure, the content? Whilst also having the connection that comes from our voice, our energy, our lived experience shaping what people feel when they land on our page?
Can we actually have both? Can we achieve the seemingly impossible dream of having our cake and eating it too?
The Secret To Using AI Without Losing Your Voice
The answer is Yes … as long as we practise the following mantra:
I am the creator. AI is the assistant.
AI throws out ideas, offering angles, suggesting possibilities. It’s the brainstorming buddy who never gets tired and never runs out of options. But it doesn’t get to decide what your content becomes.
You are the one with the final say.
You are the one with the flavour.
You are the one with the lived experience, the intuition, the spark.
So use AI for what it’s brilliant at:
- generating options
- being a design assistant
- helping you see possibilities you might not have considered
- speeding up the parts that don’t need your soul
And then this is the important bit, add your voice, your rhythm, your style, your energy to whatever it gives you.
Season it.
Shape it.
Rewrite it until it feels like something only you could have made.
The Real Magic Is In The Middle
That’s the blend.
Convenience and connection.
Support and soul.
Coffee and tea.
Maybe the real magic isn’t choosing one or the other. It’s simply finding the place of balance that lies somewhere in the middle.
Now where can I get me a Yuenyeung?
